We the People, 2017, strips of paper, glue, 4 drawings 70x60cm each |
||||||||
We the People draws on the American Constitution. I have cut up the text into strips, and then pasted them back again in a random way, which makes the text indecipherable and turns it into an image. The choice of text as well as the work procedure (deconstruction / reconstruction) relates to the ways in which we understand and are defined by our history. We the People comprises four drawings, 70cm x 60cm each, and is part of a body of work that uses emblematic texts of political and social significance to their respective nations, such as Pericles, Funeral Oration.
