Forgetmenot, 2012, installation view, Gallery Martine Aboucaya

The source material for this series of 19 drawings is the correspondence of the romantic poet Heinrich Kleist and Henrietta Voguel to their family and friends before committing suicide together in Potsdam near Berlin.
I hand-copied and then scanned and manipulated the letters in such a way so as to make them illegible, as if their marks dissolve into the background, and then I traced the print-out on transparent paper.
One can make out that the drawings are made of words and letters but neither from afar nor from close inspection can one read the content.
